In April 1996, Phase 1 ot the Jamaica Fire Brigade EMS began in
the western towns of Savanna-la-Mar, Negril and Ironshore, with Lucea being added in August of the same year (1996).

The EMS is staffed by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and is another functional arm
of the Jamaica Fire Brigade.
EMTs are trained locally and overseas and their duty is to retrieve, care for and deliver victims to an
appropriate medical facility in the shortest possible time and under the best possible conditions".
