Assistant Commissioner Lynden Mattocks enlisted in the St. Thomas Fire Brigade in December of
1964 as a firefighter. He went up through the ranks and was transferred to the Portland Fire
Brigade on promotion to the rank of Assistant Superintendent ‘B’ in March of 1979. He was
promoted to his present rank, occupying the post of Chief Fire Prevention Officer, Jamaica
Fire Brigade in 1995 after serving as Divisional Head of Portland -1986-1989 and St. Ann- 1989-1995. Assistant Commissioner Mattocks holds certificates in Management Development and Disaster
Management.He was awarded the national medals of honour for Long Service and Good Conduct in 1983 and Meritorious Service in 1986. The several posts held by this officer in fraternal, civic and voluntary organizations assisted him to develop his leadership ability in and out of the Brigade. He is the founder and first president
of the Anchovy Gardens Citizens Association - Portland, a Rotarian since 1986 and a past
president of the Rotary Club of Ocho Rios.
