The basic pumping appliance of any Fire Brigade is known as a pumper, which carries a detachable ladder that extends up to 10.668 metres. Each of these appliances carry up to 5000 litres of water and 200 litres of foam, which can be discharged via a 2000 litre per minute pump. There is also a hose reel system which is capable of delivering water pressure up to 53 bars and is mainly used to minimize the water supply. The unit is equipped with a system which delivers a mixture of 3-6% foam. These vehicles are designed to act as a “first strike” and therefore carry a wide range of equipment, including hydraulic rescue equipment for use in road traffic accidents and in other instances where people are trapped. The vehicle carries four compressed air breathing apparatus sets. The latest fleet acquisitions are based on the “Rosenbauer” chassis. The specification includes diesel engine with power output of 300 bhp, maximum speed of 120km/h, drum brakes on front and rear axle and automatic transmission. Gross vehicle weight is 13 tonnes. The crew compliment ranges between 6 and 7, including the officer in charge.
The body is designed from aluminum with three (3) storage compartments on each side. There is also a cab pillar spot light, roof mounted visibeam search light and bumper fog lamps.
